No. 12 UCLA Hits Four Homers in 8-7 Win at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. โ The No. 12-ranked UCLA baseball team blasted four home runs and withstood a late charge from the hosts en route to an 8-7 win at Oregon on Saturday afternoon.
The result tied the series up between the Bruins (11-3, 1-1 Pac-12) and Ducks (10-4, 1-1) at one game apiece.
Sophomore second baseman Duce Gourson led the home run barrage from UCLA, leaving the yard twice and recording his first-career multi-home run game. He opened the scoring with a solo shot in the second inning, and made it a 5-0 game after hitting a three-run home run in the fifth.
Junior right fielder JonJon Vaughns and junior third baseman Kyle Karros each hit a home run as well. Vaughn's homer, a solo job in the second inning, marked his second roundtripper of the series and team-leading sixth of the season.
Besides the home run hitters, sophomore shortstop Cody Schrier (2-5) and senior catcher Darius Perry (2-4) recorded multi-hit days.
Oregon was led by third baseman Sabin Ceballos, who went 4-5 with a pair of RBIs.
UCLA held leads of 6-0 in the fifth and 8-2 in the ninth, but had to endure a late rally from the Ducks to pull out the win.
Leadoff man Tanner Smith drew first blood in a ninth-inning five-spot with an RBI single before the Ducks hit back-to-back-to-back home runs โ all with two outs โ to make it a one-run contest. Oregon's Colby Shade ultimately flew out to right for the final out of the game.
Sophomore right-hander Alonzo Tredwell earned the win for the Bruins, allowing just two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings.
Freshman righty Cody Delvecchio was a standout out of the pen, retiring all four batters he faced. He entered the game with two on in the sixth and got the final out of the inning, then proceeded to go three-up, three-down in the seventh.
UCLA and Oregon decide the series on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m. PT.
