UCLA Gymnastics Takes Top Seed at NCAA Los Angeles Regional

LOS ANGELES – The No. 4 national seed UCLA gymnastics team will be the top seed in the NCAA Gymnastics Los Angeles Regional, which takes place Mar. 29-Apr. 1 at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. Joining the Bruins in the Regional will be No. 5 seed Utah, No. 12 seed Auburn, No. 13 seed Missouri, Stanford, Southern Utah, Washington, BYU and Boise State.
 
Individual all-around competitors competing in the Regional are Central Michigan's Hannah Demers, Long Island's Syd Morris and San Jose State's Lauren MacPherson. Individual event specialists are Boise State's Emily Lopez (vault, bars) and Courtney Blackson (vault, bars, floor); BYU's Sydney Benson (vault), Kylie Eaquinto (vault), Anyssa Alvarado (bars) and Elease Rollins (beam); San Jose State's Jaudai Lopes (vault), Emma Milne (bars, beam) and Jada Mazury (floor); Long Island's Mara Titarsolej (bars) and Ilka Juk (beam); Sacramento State's Amber Koeth (beam); and Central Michigan's Taylor Pitchell (floor).
 
The regional competition begins with a first-round matchup on Wednesday, Mar. 29 between BYU and Boise State at 2pm PT. The winner will advance to the 7pm second round session on Thursday, Mar. 30 against UCLA, Missouri and Stanford. Competing in the afternoon second round session at 2pm will be Utah, Auburn, Southern Utah and Washington. The top two teams from each of the two sessions will advance to the regional final on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 5 pm.

The top two teams and the top all-around competitor (who is not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships, which take place April 13-15 in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition, the top event specialist on each event who is not part of an advancing team or all-around competitor, advances to the national championship (in that event only).
 
UCLA will begin the regional competition on balance beam and will conclude on uneven bars. The BYU/Boise State winner will begin on vault, Stanford will start on uneven bars, and Missouri will begin on floor exercise. In the afternoon session, Washington begins on vault, Southern Utah starts on uneven bars, Utah begins on balance beam, and Auburn starts on floor exercise.
 
The Bruins have won a total of 24 NCAA Regional titles and enter this year's regional with a NQS of 197.9500 and a season average of 197.702.
