April 13, 2023 | Women's Rowing
UCLA sophomores Olivia Hay and Polly Wenlock have been selected to the list of USA-based Under 23 trialists for the New Zealand national team, as announced this week by Rowing New Zealand.
Hay and Wenlock are two of the eight athletes who have been chosen to attend the USA-based Under 23 trials at Briones Reservoir (located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area). The trials for the New Zealand U23 squad are scheduled to take place from June 16-18.
Both Hay and Wenlock have rowed in the Bruins' varsity eight crew this season, including in the team's first-place finish at last week's Big Ten Invitational in Sarasota, Fla.
Hay grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, and attended Glendowie College before enrolling at UCLA. Wenlock attended Kapiti College in New Zealand and grew up in Paekakariki. Both UCLA rowers competed on the Bruins' top two varsity crews as redshirt freshmen last season. Hay rowed for the North Shore Rowing Club, while Wenlock participated with the Porirua Rowing Club.
Last summer, Hay competed for the New Zealand Under 23 National Team at the World Rowing Championships in Italy. She was invited to race for the U23 team in the women's 4x at the World Rowing Championships.
UCLA's rowing program returns to action against Loyola Marymount in Marina del Rey on Saturday, April 22. Races are scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. (PT) on Ballona Creek.
