Jake Bobo Named Finalist for Pop Warner CFB Award
April 14, 2023 | Football
Pop Warner Little Scholars announced on Friday that UCLAย receiver Jake Bobo was one of three finalists for its 13th annual Pop Warner College Football Award. The award was established in 2010 to recognize a senior who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community, and serves as a role model to Pop Warner's young student athletes.
Bobo led the Bruins in receptions (57) and receiving yards (817) on the field in the 2022 season, a mark which rated as the 17th-best in UCLA single-season history. He caught at least three passes in each game as a Bruin and compiled two 100-yard receiving games against Washington (142) and at Oregon (101). Bobo also excelledย off the field, earning the Bruins' first spot on the CSC Academic All-Americaยฎ football team in over a decade for outstanding academic success. He was also named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society earlier this week after maintaining a 3.2 GPA over the course of his academic career. Bobo received his undergraduate degree in economics from Duke University and played last season while enrolled in the graduate program in Transformative Coaching and Leadership at UCLA.
The Pop Warner Little Scholars National College Football Award will be presented in May as part of the organization's All-American Scholars celebration, which recognizes Pop Warner student-athletes for their academic accomplishments. The other finalists include Auburn kicker Anders Carlson and Kentucky guard Kenneth Horsey. Last year's winner was University of California'sย third team All-American and first team All-Pac-12 safety, Elijah Hicks.ย
"There's no exact equation for success, but we've always believed that student-athletes who play hard, work hard and do the right thing have the foundation to excel," said Jon Butler, executive director of Pop Warner Little Scholars. "This special group of finalists are a perfect embodiment of that belief. They have succeeded on the field, in the classroom and created positive impact in their communities. They are outstanding role models for our young Pop Warner student-athletes."ย
Previous recipients have included, Prince Amukamara (Nebraska), Chase Minnifield (Virginia), Sean Renfree (Duke), Gary Bush (Purdue), Jordan Richards (Stanford), Brandon Chubb (Wake Forest), Evan Engram (Mississippi), Braxton Berrios (Miami), CJ Conrad (Kentucky), Michael Pittman, Jr. (USC), Ian Book (University of Notre Dame) and Hicks.ย
