UCLA Claims Two Outdoor School Records at Texas Relays

AUSTIN โ UCLA Track and Field has new outdoor school records in the women's javelin throw and the men's 4x400m relay after strong showings by the Bruins in Austin, Texas, at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this weekend.

The Bruins had top-10 finishes in eight of the 19 events in which they competed at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Federica Botter claimed fifth place in the women's javelin throw on Friday, launching a 53.52m (175-07.00) throw in Section A of the event. Botter set the previous record (53.20m) at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Mar. 24, 2023.

The men's 4x400m relay of Antonie Nortje, Willington Wright, Ismail Turner and Cameron Reynolds broke the school record set in 1988, running the first sub-three-minute relay in 35 years. The relay team placed third, running a 2:59.25; UCLA's time ranks seventh all-time in the history of the NCAA event. Saturday's 4x400m event was the first time in history in which three teams ran sub-three-minute times in the same race.

Mayyi Mahama got things started for UCLA in the women's hammer throwย with her throw of 61.71m (202-05.00). Ka'Leila Abrille cleared (4.00m, 13-01.50) in the pole vault event to claim seventh in the competition.

Kate Jendrezak snagged a seventh place of her own in the women's 800m run, finishing in 2:08.337 to complete UCLA's first day of competition at the Texas Relays.

Liam Anderson (14.17) and Aiden Lieb (14.39) ran in the 110m hurdles in a field of tough competition.

Makenzy Pierre-Webster had a top-15 finish in the women's 100m dash, running an 11.37 in the preliminary event. Naomi Johnson ran an 11.59 in the timed final of the 100m dash, which placed her eighth in the race.

Aidan Elbettar got in on the throws action in the men's discus. His 59.91m (196-07.00) placed him sixth in the event.

The women's 4x400m relay team joined Ramirez and the men's 4x400m squad in the top five at the meet Saturday. Aly Conyers, Jendrezak, Pierre-Webster and Naomi Johnson finished fourth with a combined 3:30.70.
