Botter Claims Pac-12 Title, Six Bruins Advance to Finals after Day One

WALNUT, Calif. โ Federica Botter is a Pac-12 Champion.

The graduate thrower launched a javelin 57.81m (189-08) in the finals of the women's event on the first day of the 2023 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships in Walnut, Calif., at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Botter shattered her previous school record (53.57m, 175-09), and the second-place javelin thrower was nearly four meters short of the top spot.

The Bruins advanced six runners in five events: the men's and women's 1500m, the men's 200m, and the men's and women's 400m hurdles.

John Robinson IV qualifies for Sunday's 200m final after running a 21.01 in his heat. Shawn Toney and Sonia Virk will be the Bruins in the respective 400m hurdle finals later this weekend.

Kris Emig (hammer throw: 65.93m, 216-03) and Anoop Khatra (javelin: 61.53m, 201-10) were point-scorers for the men's squad on the first day of the Championships.

The Bruins return to action at 12:30 p.m. in the women's hammer throw final and will compete until the final event on Saturday's schedule.
