Five Bruins Earn ACWPC All-America Acclaim

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Five members of the UCLA women's water polo team earned ACWPC 2023 All-America recognition, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced today. The five All-America selections are tied for the most in the country in 2023 with Stanford and USC.

Graduate center Ava Johnsonย headlined the list of Bruin selections as UCLA's lone First-Team honoree. Graduate utility Katrina Drake was the only Bruin to earn Second-Team honors. The remaining three Bruins earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades, which included sophomore attacker Emma Lineback and a pair of freshmen utility in Anna Pearson and Sienna Green.

Johnson was third on the team in scoring with 53 points (35 goals, 18 assists). The 35 goals ranked sixth on the team while the 18 assists ranked tied for fifth. She was second on the squad in exclusions drawn with 35 on the year. She tied for first on the team in field blocks (9) and won all three of her sprints on the year. Johnson is a four-time All-American after earning First-Team honors in 2021, Second-Team accolades in 2022,ย and being named Honorable Mention in 2020.

Drake finished fourth on the team in scoring with 50 points (38 goals, 12 assists). The 38 goals ranked tied for fourth on the squad while the 12 assists ranked seventh. She also was third on the team in exclusions drawn with 20 on the year. This is the third time she has earned All-America honors in her career (Honorable Mention in 2020 and 2022).

Lineback led the team in scoring with 79 points (52 goals, 27 assists). The 52 goals and the 27 assists each paced the Bruins' offense. She also tied for the team lead in steals with 24. She scored at least one goal in 25 of the 27 games she played, including a personal-best streak of 14 to open the season. She also ended the year scoring at least one goal in her last 10 outings. This is the firstย All-America honor of her career.

Pearson tied for fifth on the team in scoring with 49 points (46 goals, 3 assists). The 46 goals ranked second on the team. She led the team in exclusions drawnย with 42. She also tied for seventh on the squad with 15 steals. She scored at least one goal in 23 of the 29 games she played, including a personal-best nine straight during the season. This is the firstย All-America honor of her career.

Green was eighth on the team in scoring with 46 points (39 goals, 7 assists). The 39 goals rankedย third on the team. She ranked tied for fourth on the team in exclusions drawn with 15 and was sixth inย steals with 17. Her six field blocks ranked third on the squad. She scored at least one goal in 24 of the 29 games she played, including a personal-best 14 to end the season. This is the firstย All-America honor of her career.
