Botter Earns Seventh as Bruins Complete Second Day of Outdoor Nationals

AUSTIN, Texas โ€“ Federica Botter placed seventh in the javelin during day two of the the 2023 NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, throwing 55.79m (183-0) in the championship event. Botter earns First Team All-America with the result, the first female Bruin javelin thrower to receive the honors since Suzy Powell in 1998, breaking a 25-year drought.

Mayyi Mahama was the first Bruin in competition after a short lightning delay, competing in the women's hammer throw trials. She placed 11th, recording a 64.57m (211-10) in the event. Mahama was named Second Team All-America for the result.

Emma Tavella broke 10 minutes for the second-consecutive meet, running a 9:56.93 in her semifinal. She earns Second Team All-America for her 14th-place finish.

Rose Pittman improves the third-fastest time in UCLA outdoor track and field history in the 800m, running a 2:03.77 in her semifinal. Pittman becomes the first Bruin to break the 2:04 mark since 2002 (Tiffany Burgess, 2:03.73 โ€“ May 4, 2002). Her personal best in the event secured Second Team All-America honors.

The women's 4x400m finished off action with a season-best mark of 3:30.55. Aly Conyers, Makenzy Pierre-Webster, Kate Jendrezak and Naomi Johnson combined for a 12th-place finish, good for Second Team All-America honors. The quartet finish the season with second team honors in both indoor and outdoor seasons.

The final day of the men's track & field outdoor championships begins Friday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. CT. The Bruins will see Jalyn Jackson in the triple jump field event, then Peter Herold in the 3000m steeplechase. The men's 4x400m relay will compete in the season finale for UCLA
