Karros, Harrison Taken on Day Two of 2023 MLB Draft

Junior third baseman Kyle Karros and senior right-handed reliever Charles Harrison were both selected Monday on the second day of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Paired with Alonzo Tredwell's selection on Sunday, UCLA has had three student-athletes picked through the first two days of the draft.
Karros was the first Bruin off the board on Monday, going to Colorado in the fifth round (No. 145 overall). Harrison was the seventh-round pick (No. 215 overall) of the St. Louis Cardinals.
After Monday's picks, UCLA has now had 123 players selected in the MLB Draft in 19 years under head coach John Savage. That figure includes 50 draftees inside the top-10 rounds.
Kyle becomes the third Karros to be drafted out of UCLA, joining brother Jared (2022, 16th round) and father Eric (1988, sixth round) who were both picked by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Karros was a three-year standout on both sides of the ball for UCLA, slashing .276/.342/.407 for his career while providing high-level defense at the hot corner. His high water mark came as a sophomore in 2022, as he was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team while setting single-season career bests in batting (.308), slugging (.473), home runs (six), and RBIs (42). The 6-foot-5 infielder produced a .284/.372/.420 triple slash as a junior this past season, opening the year by reaching base in 23 consecutive starts. His .383 batting average against non-conference opponents this season was second-highest on the team.
A four-year contributor out of the bullpen, Harrison had a career year as a senior in 2023, posting a career-best 1.38 ERA while limiting opponents to a .214 batting average. He piled up 37 strikeouts in just 26 innings, while walking just eight and going the entire year without hitting a batter. His ERA for the season was by far the best on the Bruin staff (among pitchers with more than one appearance). For his career, Harrison recorded a 3.15 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 80 innings.
The 2023 MLB Draft concludes on Tuesday with rounds 11-20. Selections will begin at 11:00 a.m. PT.
