2023 Maui Jim Maui Invitational Bracket Revealed

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's basketball team will play Marquette in its first game of the 2023 Maui Jim Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center on the island of Maui on Monday, Nov. 20.

UCLA's game against Marquette will be nationally televised on ESPN2. Game time is 6:30 p.m. in Maui (8:30 p.m., PT). The eight-team bracket was unveiled on Tuesday morning.

The Bruins will face either Kansas or Chaminade on Tuesday, Nov. 21, the second day of the three-day tournament. The four teams on the opposite side of the bracket from UCLA include Syracuse, Tennessee, Gonzaga and Purdue. UCLA will face one of those four teams on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

UCLA last faced Marquette during the 2021-22 season, securing a 67-56 victory over the Golden Eagles in Milwaukee on Dec. 11, 2021. The Bruins defeated Marquette, 69-60, in Pauley Pavilion on Dec. 11, 2020. In all, UCLA has compiled a 4-0 record against Marquette. The two other matchups took place in 1949 and 1964.

The Bruins will be playing in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational for the seventh time in school history. UCLA returns to Maui since playing in the tournament in Nov. 2019. The Bruins have compiled a 9-9 all-time record in the tournament, winning the title in 2006. Past Maui Jim Maui Invitational appearances by UCLA have occurred in Nov. 1995, Nov. 2001, Nov. 2006, Nov. 2011, Nov. 2015 and Nov. 2019.

UCLA went 31-6 overall last season and 18-2 in Pac-12 play, capturing the Pac-12 regular-season title for the first time since 2013. The Bruins advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 for the third consecutive season, securing a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament field.

Marquette went 29-7 last season and posted a 17-3 record in the Big East Conference to win the regular-season title. The No. 2-seeded Golden Eagles defeated Vermont (78-61) in the NCAA Tournament's first round before losing to Michigan State (69-60) in the second round.
