August 17, 2023 | Women's Soccer
UCLA's Lilly Reale and Reilyn Turner have been selected to the2023 Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, recognizes the National Player of the Year and is determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of the United Soccer Coaches.
ย
Reale, a junior defender from Hingham, Mass., is the reigning Honda Sport Award winner for soccer and a United Soccer Coaches second-team All-American. She led UCLA to the NCAA Championship in 2022, being selected the College Cup's Most Outstanding Defensive Player. She also received first-team All-Region and All-Pac-12 honors for the second-straight year and was named the 2022 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, becoming just the second Bruin ever to receive the award. Reale led the Bruin defense to a 0.55 goals against average, UCLA's lowest in eight years, and to a Pac-12 Conference-best 14 shutouts. Through her two-year career, Reale has started and played in 43 games, totaling two goals and two assists while leading UCLA to a 37-3-4 record with 22 shutouts. This is Reale's second consecutive year on the Hermann Trophy Watch List.
ย
Turner, a senior forward from Aliso Viejo, Calif., was the Most Outstanding Offensive Player at the College Cup and a first-team All-Pacific Region honoree in 2022. A three-time All-Pac-12 honoree and the 2020 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Turner has posted three 10-plus goal seasons as a Bruin and ranks No. 9 all-time at UCLA in career goals with 32 and game-winning goals with 13. She led the nation in game-winners last season with seven. Turner has scored two hat tricks in her career, and she netted the game-tying goal in the dying seconds of the 2022 NCAA Championship game with a header off a corner kick.
ย
Fifteen players become Hermann Trophy semifinalists following the completion of Division I All-America voting at the end of the fall season. The women's finalists will be announced on Dec. 13, and the winners will be revealed on Jan. 5, 2024 in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
