Bruins Arrive in Munich, Visit Allianz Arena

MUNICH, Germany – UCLA Women's Basketball took highspeed rail from Berlin, Germany, to arrive in Munich this afternoon. The Bruins spent three days in the country's capital before embarking by train to redshirt junior Emily Bessoir's hometown.
Bessoir was greeted by her mother at the platform with a smile and big hug shortly after the Bruins stepped off the bullet train.
After hellos were over, the team made a brief stop at the hotel for lunch before heading to the north part of the city for a VIP tour of Allianz Arena. The massive soccer stadium is home to F.C. Bayern Munich and is the second-largest sport arena in Germany with a capacity of 75,000 people. It is strictly a football facility – luckily for the National Football League, they allowed American football to be included and played on the pitch during the 2022 season. The Bruins got a behind-the-scenes look at the arena which hosts over 4,000 tourists per day when no games are being played. The team saw the official locker room, the media area for the press conference, and got down on the pitch level to see the soccer teams' benches with a sideline view of the field.
The team ended the night at a Bavarian restaurant, sitting down to a table that had baskets of Bavarian pretzels ready on arrival. There were four options to put atop the pretzels, including "O'gmachter" cheese spread. Also known as Obazda in English, the spread is a traditional Bavarian recipe that includes cheese, butter and paprika powder and is garnished with red onion, red radish and chives. The team returned to the hotel after eating to stretch it down and prepare for tomorrow's game.
The Bruins will face TS Jahn München in the final exhibition game of the Bruin summer tour on Tuesday evening in Munich. The game tips at 5 p.m. local time, 8 a.m. Pacific time. There will be no livestream available, so follow along on social media for highlights, photos and statistics!
