Sturdivant Earns a Spot on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List

UCLA's J.Michael Sturdivant was named on Monday to the 2023 Biletnikoff Award watch list. The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the nation's outstanding college football receiver by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. The award recipient is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a distinguished group of prominent college football journalists, commentators and former receivers.
Sturdivant, who transferred to UCLA from Cal, started all 12 games for the Golden Bears in 2022 and led the team with 65 receptions and seven touchdown catches, while ranking second on the squad with 755 yards receiving. He earned first-team Freshman All-American honors from The Athletic, College Football News and the Football Writers Association of America.
Sturdivant was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection of the league's coaches after he led the nation's freshmen in receptions and receptions per game (5.4) and receiving yards, while ranking second in receiving yards per game (62.9) and tied for second in touchdown receptions. He was listed among the Pac-12 and national overall leaders in touchdown receptions (tied for No. 6 Pac-12, tied for No. 51 NCAA), receptions per game (No. 8 Pac-12, tied for No. 49 NCAA), receiving yards (No. 12 Pac-12, No. 94 NCAA) and receiving yards per game (No. 10 Pac-12, No. 84 NCAA).
The Texas native made at least three receptions and racked up at least 45 yards receiving in each contest last season. He totaled a season-high of eight catches versus both Washington (104 yards) and USC (54). Sturdivant made scoring catches in games against Notre Dame (18 yards), Arizona (16), Colorado (14), Washington (8/48), Oregon (6) and UCLA (46).
The Bruins begin the 2023 season on Sept. 2 at Rose Bowl Stadium against Coastal Carolina. That game will be televised by ESPN and begin at 7:30 p.m. UCLA will then travel to play at San Diego State on Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m. on CBS before returning to Pasadena to host North Carolina Central on Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks. The conference slate begins on Sept. 23 with a trip to play at Utah.
