Moore Earns Pac-12 Honors

Dante Moore was named the Pac-12 Freshman Player of the Week in the league's Monday announcement of the Pac-12 Football Performance Awards presented by Nextiva.ย

Moore started his first collegiate game last Saturday at San Diego State and completed 17 of 27 passing attempts for 290 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The three touchdown performance tied him with Josh Rosen (2015) and Cade McNown (1995) for the most scoring passes in a game by a Bruin true freshman. One of his touchdown tosses went for 81 yards to Josiah Norwood which was the longest passing play ever involving a Bruin true freshman quarterback. It was the longest pass play by the Bruin since a 2019 connection between Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Demetric Felton Jr. which went for 94 yards in a game at Washington State.

Moore's total of 290 passing yards was the eighth-best total ever by a Bruin true freshman quarterback with only Rosen and McNown having thrown for more in a game. The Detroit, Mich. native was also the first Bruin quarterback of any class to make his first career start on the road and lead the Bruins to victory since 2012 (Brett Hundley โ at Rice).

After two games, Moore rates second in the nation in passing yards per completion (18.04 yds), tenth in the nation in passing efficiency with a 192.0 mark and twenty-second in the nation in touchdown passes, with five.

The No. 24 (AP) / 25 (Coaches) Bruins (2-0) will play host to North Carolina Central (2-0) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Rose Bowl Stadium in a celebration of Black Excellence Game. The visiting Eagles are the defending HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) football national champions and are currently ranked No. 17 in the Stats Perform FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) poll. The game will be broadcast by the Pac-12 Network.
