THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. โ The UCLA men's tennis team is set to kick off its 2024 at the Sherwood Country Club, with the Sherwood Collegiate Cup representing the Bruins' final competition before dual-match play begins. Matches begin Saturday and continue through Monday.
Joining UCLA in the field are No. 7 USC, No. 19 Texas A&M and California. The event has adopted a hidden-dual format in recent years, with individuals from opposing teams facing off each day. Team wins are not counted, but singles and doubles champions will be announced at the conclusion of the holiday weekend. Matches will begin each day at 10 a.m. PT.
Freshman Spencer Johnson had a standout fall, racking up team highs in singles (seven) and doubles (six) wins. He partnered with redshirt freshman Emon van Loben Sels to take the Dennis Rizza Classic doubles crown in early November. Van Loben Sels was second on the team with five singles wins and four doubles victories during the early season.
