LOS ANGELES โ€“ UCLA Head Football Coach Chip Kelly announced Tuesday the program has hired Darren Uscher as its executive director of recruiting.

Uscher arrives in Westwood after serving on recruiting and player personnel staffs at the University of Oregon, Auburn, Boise State and Georgetown.

"Darren brings valuable experience and perspective to our program that will enhance the foundation and values already in place," said Kelly.

He most recently spent the 2023 season with Oregon as a player personnel and scouting consultant. With the Ducks, he helped construct a recruiting class for 2024 season that has been ranked as high as No. 3 (ESPN) nationally. On the field, UO went 12-2 overall and reached the Pac-12 Championship Game, falling to Washington before rebounding for a win against previously-unbeaten Liberty on New Year's Day in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

Prior to his time in Eugene, Ore., Uscher spent two seasons (2021, 2022) at Auburn as the Tigers' director of football recruiting. At Auburn, he oversaw all areas of recruiting, player personnel, and roster management while also liaising with the athletics compliance department. Uscher helped produce top-25 recruiting classes in each of his seasons on campus, as Auburn imported the No. 21 class for the 2022 season, followed by the No. 18-ranked group for 2023 (both per 247 Sports).

Uscher spent seven seasons (2014-2020) at Boise State prior to his stint at Auburn, including five seasons as the Broncos' director of football recruiting and player personnel. Prior to his promotion, Uscher was a football operations/recruiting coordinator for two seasons at Boise State. Each of his seven years on staff, the program brought in the Mountain West Conference's No. 1 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The Broncos went 69-19 during Uscher's tenure and reached a bowl game every year except the COVID-19-affected 2020 campaign.

Uscher's first full-time position came at Georgetown, where he served as the director of operations, assistant recruiting coordinator and video coordinator for the 2013 season. While at Georgetown, he earned his master's degree in sports industry management.

Uscher got his start in college athletics as a marketing assistant at his alma mater, the University of South Carolina. With the Gamecocks, he executed marketing plans for the football, baseball, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's soccer programs. He also interned with the NFL's Washington Commanders and Major League Soccer's D.C. United during his collegiate days. Uscher earned his bachelor's in sports and entertainment management from South Carolina in 2009.
