Five Bruins To Play in All-Star Games this Week

Five Bruins will be featured this week in college football all-star games in the lead up to the 2024 NFL Draft which will take place Apr. 25-27 in Detroit, Mich. -- DL Laiatu Latu, DL Gabriel Murphy, DL Grayson Murphy, LB Darius Muasau, RB Carson Steele.

Latu was chosen to participate in the 75th Reese's Senior Bowl which will be played in Mobile, Ala. on Sat., Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. PT and broadcast on the NFL Network. Heย will play for the National Team which will be coached by former Bruin assistant coach and current New York Jets Defensive Coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.ย More than 900 NFL personnel, including decision-makers from all 32 teams, and over 1,100 media members from around the country were credentialed to the event this year.

In the 2023 season, Latu became UCLA's first-ever winner of the Lombardi Award, the Ted Hendricks Award and the Polynesian Defensive Player of the Year honor. He was aย finalist for the Bednarik Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy after leading the nation in tackles for loss per game (1.8) and ranking fourth nationally in sacks per game (1.08) average. Latu had multiple tackles for loss in seven games in 2023 and registered at least a half a sack in eight of the 12 games.

Gabriel Murphy, Grayson Murphy, Muasauย and Steele were selected to participate in the 99th East-West Shrine Bowl which will be played on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. PT in Frisco, Texas. All four players will suit up for the West team which will be coached by New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and are slated to wear the following numbers โ No. 99 Grayson Murphy, No. 91 Gabriel Murphy, No. 50 Darius Muasau and No. 34 Carson Steele.
Gabriel Murphy was a starter in all 13 games in 2023 and totaled at least 0.5 tackles for loss in 11 contests while registering at least 0.5 sacks in eight games. He ranked sixth in the Pac-12 in sacks per game average (0.62). Grayson Murphy appeared in all 13 games and earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors. He was credited with at least 0.5 tackles for loss in nine contests and posted a season-high eight stops, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks in the LA Bowl win over Boise State.
Muasau was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection by the league's coaches after leading the team in tackles. He posted a season-high of 11 stops in the LA Bowl where he was named Defensive Most Valuable Player. He was third on the squad in 2023 with 10.5 tackles for loss andย tied for the team lead with six pass breakups. Steele ranked sixth in the Pac-12 in rushing yards and rushing yards average per game this past season. He totaled seven games with at least 75 yards rushing and posted 100-yard rushing performances against Washington State (141 yards) and at Oregon State (110). He also caught at least one pass in nine games.
The East-West Shrine Game features more than 120 of college football's elite seniors and juniors, who will get a chance to showcase their talents under the direction of a select group of NFL assistant coaches. The game will be televised by NFL Network and broadcast on Bowl Season Radio.
