LOS ANGELES – Five Bruins have been recognized on four different preseason watchlists, as published by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this week.
The Naismith Starting 5 awards recognize the top student-athlete at each position in NCAA Division I women's basketball each year, and the preseason watchlists contain the top 20 players at each spot.
Junior Kiki Rice and graduate guard Charlisse Leger-Walker were announced as two of the top 20 on the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award watch list on Monday. Graduate student Angela Dugalic was named to the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award Preseason Watchlist Wednesday; the Bruin was followed by junior transfer Janiah Barker making the cut for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award watchlist.
Junior center Lauren Betts was the final Bruin to be recognized on the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award Preseason Watchlist Friday.
2023-24 Bruins on Naismith Watchlists
Rice was named a top 10 candidate for the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award during her sophomore season, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced on Jan. 22.
Charisma Osborne was tabbed as a top 10 candidate on Jan. 23 for the 2024 Ann Meyers-Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award; she earned a top 5 finalist nod on March 5.
Betts was the third Bruin on the top 10 lists released by the Basketball Hall of Fame and WBCA, making the cut for the 2024 Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award. Betts also was also included on the Late Season Top 20 Watch List for the John R. Wooden Award Presented by Principal, which was announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
Betts, Osborne and Rice were all named to the 2024 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Midseason Team, the Atlanta Tipoff Club and Naismith Awards announced on Feb. 13.
