2024 Big Ten Women's Soccer Award Winners

Eight Bruins Honored with Big Ten Postseason Awards

November 01, 2024 | Women's Soccer

UCLA Women's Soccer received two major honors and placed seven players on the all-conference team and another on the all-freshman team in its first season in the Big Ten Conference. Senior Lilly Reale earned her third consecutive conference Defender of the Year award, and defender Nicki Fraser received Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors.

Reale and junior midfielder Sofia Cook were named to the All-Big Ten first team. Selected to the second team were senior forward Quincy McMahon, senior defender Jayden Perry and graduate goalkeeper Ryan Campbell. Fraser and sophomore midfielder Val Vargas received third-team honors. Fraser was also selected to the All-Freshman team, along with forward Jordan Geis. Additionally, McMahon was an honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which honors student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior.

Reale adds a third conference Defender of the Year award to her expanding trophy case. Last season, she became the first player ever to win Pac-12 Defender of the Year honors in consecutive years. The Hingham, Mass. native and two-time All-American was rated the No. 1 player in the nation on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100. Reale leads a UCLA defense that has allowed just seven goals in 19 games this season. The Bruins hold a team goals against average of 0.368, which ranks second in the nation, and have recorded 13 shutouts, which rank third in the nation. Under her leadership in the back, UCLA has allowed an average of just 6.3 shots per game. Reale, the 2022 Honda Award winner, has earned first-team all-conference honors in each of her four years at UCLA, joining Lauren Cheney, Abby Dahlkemper and Jessie Fleming in an exclusive group of four-time first-team honorees.

Fraser is the sixth Bruin player ever to earn conference Freshman of the Year honors and the first since Reilyn Turner in 2020. Fraser, who hails from Highlands Ranch, Colo., started and played in 15 games, leading all Bruin freshmen in games started. She helped the Bruin defense secure 10 shutouts in her 15 games played, including five in a row to start the season. UCLA led the Big Ten in most defensive categories, with 13 shutouts, a 0.684 shutout percentage and a 0.368 goals against average.

Cook earns first-team recognition after being a second-team all-conference honoree a year ago. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native is tied for the team lead in goals scored with four, and scored three of those goals during conference play. Her game-winners at Indiana and Purdue led to her being named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24. Cook has played in 14 games and started 11.

McMahon, from Carmel, Ind., receives her third career all-conference honors but her first as a forward after being a first-team All-Pac-12 defender in 2022 and 2023. McMahon made her first start at forward on Oct. 5 against Washington and scored the game-winning goal, one of three game-winners this season. One of just two Bruin players to start in all 19 games, McMahon leads all field players with 1,635 minutes played and is tied for second on the team with eight points (three goals, two assists), with all of her points scored during conference play.

Perry, a senior from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., earns her second consecutive all-conference nod. The two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week has started in 17 games and logged 1,529 minutes this season. She has also scored two goals, including the game-winner against Ohio State, and assisted on the game-winner against BYU, while contributing to 11 of the Bruins' 13 shutouts.

Campbell earns all-conference goalkeeper honors for the third time in her career. The Laguna Beach, Calif. native ranks No. 1 in the nation in shutouts (13), No. 2 in goalkeeper minutes played (1710:00), and No. 4 in goals against average (0.368). She was the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 8, marking her eighth career weekly conference award win. Campbell started her Bruin career with 519 consecutive shutout minutes, 119 minutes shy of UCLA's all-time record.

Vargas makes her first career all-conference team after being a Pac-12 All-Freshman selection a year ago. The Pico Rivera, Calif. native has played in 10 games since rejoining the team in mid-September following Mexico's Round of 16 run at the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup. She has totaled nine starts and is averaging 70 minutes played per game.

Geis is one of just five Bruins and the only underclassman to play in all 19 games this season. She has 12 starts and has scored one goal, the game-winner in the 83rd minute at Oregon. The San Jose native ranks third on the team in shots with 27.

UCLA is tied with USC for the most players on the All-Big Ten team with seven. The Bruins are also tied for the most on the All-Freshman team with two.
