Three Bruins Earn Big Ten Postseason Awards
November 08, 2024 | Men's Soccer
UCLA Men's Soccer placed three players on the all-conference teams in its first season in the Big Ten Conference. Senior Andre Ochoa earned a spot on the first team, graduate student Nico Cavallo was named to the second team, and freshman Allan Legaspi secured a spot on the all-freshman team.
Ochoa, a fifth-year senior from Anaheim, California, was named to the All-Big Ten first team. The designation is his third all-conference honor all time and first first-team selection. Ochoa was also named a Pac-12 Conference honorable mention selection in 2023 and earned a second-team all-conference honor in 2021. Heading into Sunday's Big Ten semifinal against Michigan, Ochoa has two goals and one assist over 17 appearances (16 starts). Additionally, Ochoa was an honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which honors student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
Graduate defender Nico Cavallo earns his first honors as a Bruin after being placed on the All-Big Ten second team. The Davidson transfer was a three-time all-region selection for the Wildcats, and in his lone season at UCLA played and started in every game to start the season. He posted a goal and two assists across 1437 total minutes and played the most minutes on the team in 2024. Cavallo played 90 minutes 12 times out of 17 total appearances.
Allan Legaspi earned a spot on the all-freshman team in his first season in Westwood. The Pico Rivera, California native made 14 appearances and 11 starts on the year, totaling 979 minutes. He helped lead the backline to seven clean sheets on the season to date, tied for the most in the conference. The LA Galaxy Academy product has also tallied an assist on the season, in UCLA's 6-0 win over Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals.
Up Next: The Bruins take on the No. 7 seed Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals on Sunday, November 10. Kickoff is set for noon PT/2 p.m. CT from SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. Fans can also watch on the Big Ten Network.
