Nicholas Cavallo Selected by NYCFC in 2025 MLS SuperDraft

NEW YORK – UCLA graduate defender Nicholas Cavallo was selected No. 88 overall by New York City FC in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft on Friday afternoon.

Cavallo a Richmond, Virginia native, becomes the 85th MLS SuperDraft pick in UCLA men's soccer history. The Bruins have now had six draft picks under sixth-year head coach Ryan Jorden. Cavallo becomes the first Bruin to be drafted by New York City FC.

He appeared in and started in all 19 of UCLA's games during the 2024 season, capped off by earning a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team to conclude the season. Played primarily at outside back the transfer student tallied one goal and two assists on the season. Cavallo played 1,640 minutes throughout the 2024 season, which was the most played by any Bruin in 2024. He also played the full 90 minutes or more in 15 of his 19 appearances and only played less than 83 minutes twice during the season.

Cavallo's lone goal of the season came in UCLA's 3-0 win at Rutgers, while both of his assists came against Big Ten opposition. His first assist of the year came at No. 6 Maryland, providing the helper on Philip Naef's equalizing goal in a 1-1 draw, and his second came in UCLA's 6-0 win over that same Maryland squad in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament. Defensively, Cavallo helped the backline produce seven clean sheets on the year including five over ranked opposition, which was the third most in the Big Ten.

Prior to his time in Westwood, Cavallo spent four seasons at Davidson College, where he made 58 appearances (56 starts), and tallied a goal and eight assists.
