No. 2 UCLA Drops a Pair of Top 10 Duals on Friday

HONOLULUย -- No. 2 UCLA (1-3) dropped a pair of top 10 duals on Fridayย (Feb. 23) at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classicย atย Queen'sย Beach. The Bruins opened with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to No. 7 Stanford (4-0) and then followed that with another 3-2 loss, this time to No. 5 LMUย (2-2). The Bruins fell to 26-2 all-time against the Cardinal and to 19-6 all-time against the Lions.
In the dual against the Cardinal, the Bruins were in a third set on courts two and four and needed to win both of them to pull out the win, but the Cardinal pair of Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent outlasted the Bruins' Jessie Smith and Kenzie Brower on court four, 22-24, 21-15, 15-12 to seal Stanford's second win over UCLA in program history.
In the dual against the Lions, UCLA led 2-1 with courts one and four heading into a third set. The Bruins needed just one win on those two courts, but the Lions' duo of Vilhelmiina Prihti and Michelle Shaffer defeated UCLA's Maggie Boyd and Lexy Denaburg on court one, 18-21, 21-15, 17-15 to seal LMU's sixth-win over the Bruins in program history.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow when they take on No. 9 Hawai'i (0-4) at 11:00 a.m. PST in the quarterfinals. The winner heads to the semifinals to face top-seeded and seventh-ranked Stanford at 12:15 p.m. PST.
