On UCLA's ensuing possession, Betts was fouled before making one-of-two from the line, and UCLA trailed 70-68 with 1:11 to go. Unfortunately for the Bruins, LSU made their free throws over the final minute of play to earn the 78-69 win on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier on in the game, the Bruins went to Betts early and often in the first quarter as the sophomore scored five of the team's first seven points of the game. She finished the opening quarter with five points and five rebounds.

Jaquez opened the second quarter with a triple, the first of the game for the Bruins, putting the Bruins up 18-17. UCLA struggled to score for most of the quarter, outside of Rice, who made two big baskets for the Bruins to cut the deficit from six to two, 26-24, with 3:33 to go in the half.

LSU responded with a run of their own, as the Tigers rattled off eight points to take a 10-point lead with 1:03 remaining, 34-24. The Bruins got the ball back with under 30 seconds remaining and Jones hit a crucial deep three from the wing, cutting the LSU lead to seven, 34-27, at the half.

Both teams came out firing in the third quarter as the Bruins and Tigers traded baskets for the opening minutes, as LSU held a seven-point lead, 44-37, with 4:53 remaining in the quarter.
