Four Bruins Named to Hampshire Honor Society

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced on Wednesday that four UCLA football players --- WR Ryan Cragun, LB/DL Jake Heimlicher, WR Josiah Norwood and punter Will Powers --- are being honored as members of the 2024 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised on college football players who have earned their degrees from all divisions of NCAA and NAIA football and who have maintained a cumulative3.2 GPA of better throughout their careers while also being a significant contributor to the team's success on the field.
Ryan Cragun appeared in all 13 games with five starts at receiver (Arizona, Arizona State, USC, Cal, Boise State). He had a season-high three catches against Arizona State and made two catches at USC. Cragun also had one catch for 27 yards versus Colorado and made one reception versus Boise State in the LA Bowl for four yards. As a standout on special teams, he was credited with 10 tackles on kick coverage. Cragun was chosen to 2023 Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll and earned a spot on the UCLA Athletic Director's Honor Roll for Fall 2022, Winter 2023, Spring 2023 and Fall 2023.
Jake Heimlicher saw action in 12 games as a reserve defensive lineman/linebacker and special teams performer. He was credited with a season-high two stops in games against Boise State, in the LA Bowl, and at Arizona, where he also had one tackle for loss. Heimlicher registered one stop in games at Oregon State and versus Cal.
Josiah Norwood appeared in 12 games in 2023 and had a season-high five catches at Stanford (34 yards). He caught two balls for 87 yards at San Diego State, one was an 81-yard scoring play. Norwood grabbed a 17-yard scoring pass at Utah. He earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in Fall 2019, Winter 2020, Spring 2020, Winter 2021, Winter 2023 and Spring 2023. Norwood was chosen for the 2023 Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Will Powers saw action in all 13 games as the punter. He also held on place kicks during the season. Powers averaged 42.0 yards on his 48 punts with 15 fair catches and 13 downed inside the 20. His 42.0-yard average ranked fifth in the Pac-12. He earned a spot on the UCLA Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll for Fall 2023.
Jon. F. Hanson, the chairman and founder of The Hampshire Companies, provided the funds to launch the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2007. He made the contribution as part of his legacy to the organization after serving as NFF Chairman from 1994-2006. He currently serves the organization as chairman emeritus. Each player awarded membership in this year's Honor Society will receive a certificate commemorating his or her achievement.
"It was my great privilege to endow the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which has greatly increased the number of college student-athletes the NFF has been able to recognize during the past 18 years," said Hanson. "Nationwide there are thousands of football players excelling in the classroom, and they are going on to become great leaders."
"We have honored more than 18,000 student-athletes since 2007 thanks to Jon Hanson's generosity," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. "We are grateful for his passionate belief in the scholar-athlete ideal, and the Hampshire Honor Society allows us to showcase the names of tomorrow's leaders while inspiring future generations to follow in their footsteps."
