TEMPE, Ariz.ย -- No. 2 UCLA (31-5) advanced to the winner's bracket finals of the Pac-12 Championship with a 3-0 win over third-seeded and 3rd-ranked Stanford (29-4) on Thursday morning at ASU's Sun Devil Beach Volleyball Facility. The Bruins improved to 22-3 all-time against the Cardinal and 2-2 this season.
Redshirt freshman Kenzie Brower and junior Jessie Smith got the Bruins off to a hot start, taking down the previously undefeated pair of Kelly Belardi and Chloe Hoffman on court three in straight sets, 21-18, 21-15.
Then redshirt freshman Ensley Alden and junior Natalie Myszkowski put the Bruins up 2-0 on court five with a 21-18, 21-14 win over Stanford's Maya Harvey and Ashley Vincent.
The Bruins' pair of graduate student Lexy Denaburg and sophomore Maggie Boyd clinched the dual win over the Cardinal's Xolani Hodel and Brooke Rockwell, 21-10, 21-16. With the win, Denaburg set the UCLA all-time career wins record of 129 with the victory, passingย Abby Van Winkle's 128 established last year.
UP NEXT: The Bruins will face No. 1 and top-seeded USC tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. PT in a winner's bracket final live on the Pac-12 Networks. The Trojans the Bruins have split the four duals this season at 2-2. This will also be the sixth time this season and the 26th time overall that UCLA has been involved in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup.ย The Bruins have a 10-15 record (.400) in those meetings. Interestingly, UCLA is just 3-10 (.231) as the top-ranked team in those matchupsย but 7-5 (.583) as the underdog. Already this year, the Bruins are 1-1 against USC when the Trojans are No. 1 and the Bruins are No. 2 and also 1-1 against USC when the Bruins are No. 1 and the Trojans are No. 2. Additionally, No. 1 UCLA also fell to No. 2 Stanford this season, 3-2.
