Palacios Homers Three Times to Earn Pac-12 Player of the Week

LOS ANGELES – Senior catcher Sharlize Palacios on the No. 9 UCLA softball team has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second time this season, it was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Palacios led the Bruins (31-10, 14-4 Pac-12) with a .600 average (6-for-10), 1.500 slugging percentage, 11 runs batted in and three home runs in their four games last week. None of Palacios' home runs were bigger than her game-tying grand slam with two outs in the fifth inning of the series finale versus No. 19 Arizona. The blast helped UCLA overcome a 7-0 deficit, scoring 11 unanswered in an 11-7 win over its rival.
The seven-run comeback victory was the largest in program history.
All three of Palacios' homers last week either tied the game or gave the Bruins the lead. Palacios was called upon to pinch hit for her first at-bat of the week at Long Beach State on Tuesday, April 23. The senior backstop broke a 2-2 tie with a go-ahead, two-run homer.
In game one of the Arizona series, Palacios drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and RBI base hit. Palacios also hit a game-tying three-run homer in game two against the Wildcats.
In her last five games against Arizona, Palacios has recorded 15 runs batted in and four run home runs dating back to the 2023 regular-season series.
Palacios now leads UCLA with 13 home runs and a .790 slugging percentage on the season. Her .790 slugging mark is good for first in the Pac-12 Conference.
Palacios and the Bruins are back in action Tuesday afternoon to take on CSUN at Matador Diamond at 2 p.m. (PT). The game will be livestreamed on ESPN+.
