No. 14 Women's Tennis Posts Road Win Against Colorado
April 07, 2024 | Women's Tennis
BOULDER, Colo. โ The No. 14 UCLA women's tennis team registered its third win of the week and a mountain-trip sweep Sunday at Rocky Mountain Tennis Center, topping Colorado 4-1.
Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer clinched the result. Also triumphant for the Bruins (14-4, 7-1 Pac-12) in singles play were Bianca Fernandez and Kimmi Hance. All three also helped UCLA earn the doubles point. Aya El Sayed earned a top-court singles victory for the Buffaloes (12-6, 1-5).
The UCLA combination of Fernandez and Ahmani Guichard earned its third consecutive win, beating Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson by a 6-1 margin on Court 3. The second-court Bruins also continued a hot streak, as No. 79 Hance and Lutkemeyer were victorious for the eighth time in nine finished matches after taking down Mila Stanojevic and Elys Ventura 6-4.
Hance also continued to have singles success, winning her seventh straight result. The latest was a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Elys Ventura on Court 2, giving UCLA a 2-0 lead.
Colorado cut into its deficit when El Sayed knocked off No. 31 Tian Fangran 6-4, 6-4 on Court 1. This also ensured the back-court contests would begin and play a part in the final score, as just three courts were in use.
No. 80 Fernandez answered for the Bruins, holding off Stanojevic on Court 3. A winner of three in a row on the singles courts, as well, Fernandez led 4-1 in her third set before outlasting Stanojevic to prevail 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.
With Court 4 first to start of the lower courts, it was also first to finish. Court 5 had entered a third set and Court 6 was nearing a Guichard victory, but Lutkemeyer decided the overall outcome. Her second win of the week came in comeback fashion, as she overcame Betina Tokac 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Lutkemeyer has now clinched two victories for the Bruins on the season.
UCLA returns to non-conference action Thursday, April 11, when it visits No. 3 Pepperdine. First serve from Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PT.
