Campbell, Harris Qualify to NCAA Championships
April 08, 2024 | Gymnastics
UCLA senior Chae Campbell and sophomore Selena Harris will compete as individuals at the 2024 NCAA Gymnastics Championships on Thursday, April 18 in Fort Worth, Texas. Campbell qualified on floor exercise, and Harris qualified on balance beam.
Individual championships, along with four Team Final spots, are up for grabs on the first day of competition. Campbell will compete in the first semifinal session, which begins at 3:30 p.m. CT/1:30 p.m. PT. She will rotate with Arkansas and compete in the second rotation. Harris competes in the second semifinal session, which begins at 8 p.m. CT/6 p.m. PT. She will rotate with Utah and compete in the first rotation.
The Bruin duo earned individual spots in the Championships by recording the top score after tiebreakers from a non-advancing team at the NCAA California Regional second round. Campbell tied with her teammates Brooklyn Moors and Nya Reed, among others, but earned the nod due to her total score from all four judges (39.850 after receiving three 9.95s and a 10). Harris' beam score of 9.950 had 9.95s across the board, which gave her the top mark.
This will be Campbell's third NCAA Championships appearance. She qualified as an all-arounder in 2021 and with the team in 2023. At the 2021 NCAA Championships, she earned first-team All-America honors on beam and second-team acclaim on floor exercise and the all-around. She scored 9.9375 on floor to finish seventh overall. At the 2023 NCAA Championships, she earned first-team All-America honors on vault (fourth-place overall) and second-team acclaim on floor. Campbell has scored three perfect 10s on floor in her career, most recently on March 16, 2024, and holds a career average of 9.918.
Harris earned multiple All-America honors at last year's NCAA Championships, receiving first-team acclaim in the all-around (sixth-place overall) and on floor exercise (fourth-place) and second-team on balance beam (eighth-place). Harris, who is a two-time regular season All-American on beam, holds a career-high of 9.975 on the event, recording her first 9.975 at the 2023 NCAA Regionals and most recently on Feb. 4, 2024. She has a career average of 9.912 on beam.
The team semifinals/individual competition will be televised live on ESPN2 on April 18 at 3:30 pm CT/1:30 pm PT and 8 pm CT/6 pm PT. The team finals will be televised live on ABC on April 16 at 3 pm CT/1 pm PT.
