
Four Bruins Named to AVCA All-America Teams

LEXINGTON, Ky.ย -- The UCLA Bruins have four players represented on the 2024ย AVCA All-America teams, as announced by the AVCA, which unveiled its 12th annual Collegiate Beach All-America Teams today.
This year, the first and second teams include 16 members each, and the 32 players honored represent 13 schools. UCLA has now produced 26 AVCA All-Americans.
The Bruins' court one pair of graduate student Lexy Denaburg and sophomore Maggie Boyd were both named AVCA First Team All-Americans. It marked the second-straight year that the pair have made the First Team.
Heading the list of 2024 honorees are three players who became four-time All-Americans: Lexy Denaburg of UCLA, Xolani Hodel of Stanford, and Megan Kraft of USC. Denaburg is the fifth athlete to be a four-time, first-team selection.
UCLA's court two pair of senior Peri Brennan and graduate student Devon Newberryย landed on the Second Team. For Brennan, it was her second-straight Second Team All-America plaudits while it was the first for Newberry.
Cal Poly, UCLA, and Stanford led the way in total All-Americans with four apiece. Two players from Arizona State made the second-team this year, which marks the first time in program history the Sun Devils have had All-Americans.
The awards selections were made by the AVCA Collegiate Beach All-America Committee: Beth Van Fleet of Georgia State (chair), Andrew Fuller of Stanford, Hector Gutierrez of TCU, Kristina Hernandez of Stetson, Darin Van Horn of UT Chattanooga, and Allison Voigt of Boise State.
Boyd Notes
- This is the sophomore's second-straight First Team All-America award from the AVCA.
- She was also named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2023 as well as to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
- Boyd is 30-7 this year, all on court one with Lexy Denaburg, and has a 57-13 (.814) career record.
- This is the senior's second-straight Second Team All-America honor from the AVCA.
- She and her partner, Devon Newberry, have already been named Pac-12 Pair of the Week twice this season.
- Brennan is 31-5 this year, all on court two with Devon Newberry, and has a 68-10 (.872) career record.
- This is the graduate student's fourth-straight First Team All-America accolade from the AVCA (2021-24).
- She became UCLA's all-time career leader in wins with her 129th in the Pac-12 Tournament win over No. 3 Stanford (now has 130).
- Denaburg is 30-7 this year, all on court one with Maggie Boyd, and has a 130-36 (.783) career record.
- This is the graduate student's first All-America award from the AVCA in her career.
- She and her partner, Peri Brennan, have already been named Pac-12 Pair of the Week twice this year. She was named NCAA All-Tournament last year.
- Newberry is 31-5 this year, all on court two with Peri Brennan, and has a 102-25 (803) career record. Earlier this year, she became the 10th Bruin in program history to reach the 100-win milestone.
