May 10, 2024 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. โ Aiden May struck out nine over six scoreless innings to lead No. 7 Oregon State to an 11-0 win over UCLA on Friday night at Goss Stadium.
It was just the third shutout of the season for the Bruins (16-31, 6-19 Pac-12).
OSU (37-12, 15-9) scored in each inning except for the first, and pulled away with back-to-back three-spots to make it 7-0 by the end of the fourth.
The Bruins were led offensively by freshman first baseman Mulivai Levu, who singled twice and reached base a team-high three times. Junior shortstop Cody Schrier added two singles in four at-bats.
UCLA relievers Will Goldberg and Caedon Kottinger combined to allow just one earned run over the final three innings of the game. Starter Luke Jewett was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs over five frames. He started the game off on a strong note, coming up with back-to-back strikeouts to strand a pair of runners in scoring position in the top of the first. He ultimately K'd five batters.
OSU hit four home runs as a team. Dallas Macias (3-5, HR, three RBIs) and Micah McDowell (3-4, four runs, two RBIs) both left the yard as part of three-hit performances.
May and reliever Ian Lawson combined on a six-hit shutout. May allowed just four hits โ all singles โ while completing six innings, while Lawson picked up a three-inning save while giving up just two base hits.
UCLA and Oregon State continue the series on Saturday evening starting at 5 p.m. PT.
