UCLA Wins Crosstown Cup Over USC in Record Fashion

With a record-tying point total, UCLA has defeated USC in the 2023-24 Crosstown Cup, 120-70. The Bruins won the head-to-head season series over the rival Trojans in 11 sports and claimed their second Crosstown Cup victory in the last three years.

"We are very proud of the success our student-athletes have had this season, with two NCAA Championships and four conference championships so far. A dominant Crosstown Cup win just adds to their tremendous year," said UCLA's Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond. "We're excited to be holding bragging rights while introducing the Big Ten to this all-time great rivalry next season."

Each of the 19 sports in which UCLA and USC field teams have the opportunity to win 10 points towards the Crosstown Cup. All 10 points for a sport are awarded to the winner of the most head-to-head contests in that sport. If both schools win an equal amount of matchups in a sport, the 10 points are split. Sports that do not feature a scheduled head-to-head competition have 10 points allocated to the highest finisher among the two teams in conference championship play.

The Bruins earned the full 10 points from 11 teams – men's water polo, women's golf, women's cross country, women's soccer, football, men's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's volleyball, baseball and women's water polo. Two teams split the 10 points – women's volleyball and men's basketball. UCLA had a 23-14 overall record against USC in head-to-head matchups and won both of the conference championship matchups that determined point-winners – women's cross country and men's golf. The 120 points recorded by the Bruins matched the highest point total in Crosstown Cup history. USC also totaled 120 points in 2015-16.

While the rivalry dates back to the 1920s, the official head-to-head battle to determine an annual all-sports champion started in the 2001-02 season. With the conclusion of this year's competition, the Bruins have now taken nine showdowns with the Trojans.
