Men Wrap Up Competition at NCAA West First Rounds With Six More Bruins Headed to Eugene

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - UCLA Track and Field concluded the third day of competition at the 2024 NCAA West First Rounds hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonell Field on Friday evening, with the men wrapping up regional competition. Six Bruins in the discus, 400m, and the 4x400m relay events qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.ย
Senior Aidan Elbettar (58.56m, 192-1) and sophomore Michael Pinckney (58.43m, 191-8) were the first Bruins of the day to earn spots at the national championships, finishing sixthย and eighthย in the men's discus, respectively. Pinckney's mark is a new personal best.ย
Senior Antonie Nortje was next to qualify for nationals, running a 45.41 in the men's 400m quarterfinals and winning his heat with a sixth-place overall finish.ย
Nortje will also compete in the men's 4x400m relay with graduate students Ismail Turner, Myles Misener-Daley, and Sam Herenton at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor National Championships in June. Running a 3:05.04 and finishing third in their heat, they secured an automatic qualification and placed tenth overall.ย ย
The 2024 NCAA West First Rounds will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, May 25, with the second and final day of the women's competition kicking off with the discus at 1:00 p.m. (CST).ย
