Women’s Volleyball Signs Ivkovic and Reilly

June 07, 2024 | Women's Volleyball

LOS ANGELES – UCLA women's volleyball head coach Alfee Reft has signed opposite hitter Anastasija Ivkovic from Belgrade, Serbia and defensive specialist Kate Reilly, a graduate transfer from Stanford, to his 2024 roster. Ivkovic will be a freshman in 2024.

The Bruins now have six incoming players for the 2024 season, including three freshmen and three graduate transfers.

Ivkovic, standing at 6-3, starred in several international tournaments for Serbia, taking home silver at the European Championships U19 in 2022 and placing first at the Balkan Championships U19 in 2023 and 2022. Ivkovic placed fifth at the 2023-24 Serbian Cup and sixth in the 2023-24 Serbian Superleague with her club team, GŽOK Srem. In 2022-23, Ivkovic played for the Panathinaikos club team based in Greece where she placed first at the Greek A1 Etniki and second in the Greek Cup.

"Our Bruin Volleyball program is excited and proud to welcome opposite attacker Anastasija Ivkovic to our team," Reft said. "Anastasija comes from a great lineage of volleyball in Serbia and has been competing at a tremendously high level in her country. With her international experience, Anastasija will bring added depth and another set of tools to our pin attacking for this coming season and will undoubtedly raise the level of competition within our trainings and practices. We are thrilled to have Anastasija with us and are excited for the impact she will make in Westwood for years to come."

Ivkovic's father, Goran, played professional volleyball for two decades.

Reilly, a native of Manhattan Beach, California, played four seasons of beach volleyball at Stanford (2021-24) prior to transferring to UCLA. She finished her Cardinal career as the winningest player in program history with an individual 97-45 record following a 29-5 mark her senior year. The 29 wins were the most on the Stanford squad in 2024. Reilly owned a 19-2 pairs record with her partner Clara Stowell.

"What a tremendous career Kate just completed with her beach team at Stanford," Reft said. "It was fun to watch her lead her team to a historic year for that program, and we are thrilled to add her steady ball-control and defensive prowess to our deep, back-court squad. She will bring an added dimension to defense with her ability to attack as well. Most importantly, she is a fierce competitor who will be one more strong addition to our tight team culture."

In her sophomore 2022 season, Reilly was awarded AVCA Collegiate Beach Second Team All-American and All-Pac-12 Second Team honors after logging a 24-10 record for the fewest losses of any 2022 Cardinal team member playing 20-plus matches. Alongside partner Xolani Hodel, Reilly became the winningest pair in program history with their 29th win.

In her 2023 junior season, Reilly posted a 25-13 record and was recognized with the AVCA Top Flight Award with her partner Emmy Sharp, which is given to beach pairs who compete in at least 15 matches together and win at least 75 percent of their matches.

Prior to Stanford, Reilly was a member of the Mira Costa High School beach volleyball program which won seven straight titles and had a 106-match winning streak. Reilly contributed to over 50 of those victories with her partner, Olivia Bakos.
