Bruins Wrap Up Summer Competition, Win Silver at WBSC World Cup Finals

Four alumnae of the UCLA softball program – Maya Brady, Ally Carda, Megan Faraimo and Rachel Garcia – helped the U.S. Women's National Team win a silver medal at the WBSC World Cup Finals in Castions Di Strada, Italy on Saturday, July 20.
Ally Carda, who competed for the Bruins from 2012-15, struck out a pair of batters in 3.1 innings pitched in the gold medal matchup as Team USA fell to Japan, 6-1.
Rachel Garcia and Maya Brady both logged a base hit in the previous game against the Netherlands on July 19 to help advance the Golden Eagles into the title contest. Garcia's double concluded the game as Team USA walked it off in mercy-rule fashion.
Team USA ousted Japan earlier in the tournament behind a complete-game shutout by Faraimo on July 18. The two-time Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters. Two days earlier on July 16, Faraimo sent nine Italian batters down on strikes in 5.0 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Brady recorded the mercy-rule RBI on a 4-3 groundout in the win over Italy.
Brady came through with the game-deciding base hit in game one of the WBSC World Cup Finals against Canada on July 15. In the bottom of the sixth in a 2-2 ballgame, Brady laced an opposite-field double into the left-center gap to drive in two runs.
Rising junior utility Megan Grant played three games for Team USA in right field in her second Japan All-Star Series appearance from July 4-8. The Golden Eagles finished with an 0-3 record.
Softball fans can continue watching the Bruins in action this summer in the Athletes Unlimited season set to take place from July 26-Aug. 25. The six former UCLA players competing this season include Jadelyn Allchin (2023), Megan Faraimo (2019-23), Rachel Garcia (2016-19, 2021), Bubba Nickles (2017-19, 2021), Sharlize Palacios (2022-23) and Delanie Wisz (2020-22).
