UCLA Wraps Up Big Ten Football Media Days

July 24, 2024 | Football

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster and student-athletes Ethan Garbers (R-Sr. QB), J.Michael Sturdivant (R-Jr. WR) and Jay Toia (Sr. DL) represented the Bruins' football program at its first-ever Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday, hosted at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Bruins first-year head coach Foster and UCLA's trio of upperclassmen participated in various interviews with members of the print, broadcast and online media. Garbers, Sturdivant and Toia swapped their suits for UCLA's iconic blue and gold threads to film promotional videos to be aired during the season by the league's broadcast partners.

"Three things you will see with my football team are discipline, respect and enthusiasm," Foster said during his introductory press conference (full transcript here). "Those are my pillars. And no matter what, you should be able to see that. Win, lose or draw. You see my guys in the classroom, you should see that. You see them in the dorms, you should see that. Anywhere, you should be able to see discipline, respect and enthusiasm out of my football players. I think if we do that and we're able to present that in every game, the outcome will come out in our favor."

Garbers enters the 2024 season as UCLA's top man under center for the first time in his career. He will be coached by offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy who was hired in March. Bieniemy brings 16 years of NFL experience, including two Super Bowl wins as the orchestrator of the Kansas City Chiefs' offense.

"We were all so excited (to be coached by Bieniemy)," Garbers said on the Big Ten Network studio set. "Having the opportunity with someone like that coming in and being our offensive coordinator, you couldn't be more excited for an opportunity like that. The same guy who coached Patrick Mahomes is going to be coaching us."
