Women's Water Polo
Team USA left no doubt about their plans to four-peat as Olympic gold medalists, opening the match with a 3-0 burst, en route to a 15-6 win over Greece to open pool play in group B. UCLA's Rachel Fattal hit on a power play for a 1-0 lead in the opening two minutes. Team USA would lead 3-0 at the end of one. The onslaught continued in the second quarter as Team USA ran up a 7-0 advantage. The Bruins' Maddie Musselman converted on a penalty to open the scoring in the second period. The United States led 9-2 at intermission. Scoring tapered off a bit in the third quarter but the United States continued to add to its lead. After a goal by Maggie Steffens opened the scoring in the third, Tara Prentice scored her first of the game as all three players that played at UCLA scored in the game. Prentice scored her second of the game to help Team USA head into the fourth with a 12-4 advantage. Musselman and Fattal each added one steal and one rebound and Fattal won all four sprints in the game. Prentice also added one rebound.

In group A action, Australia defeated China, 7-5. UCLA's Bronte Halligan earned a start and scored one goal (iced the game with 22 seconds left, scoring the final goal) and also added one steal for the Aussie Stingers. Current student-athlete Sienna Green played 15 minutes off the bench but didn't record any statistics.

Team USA will be back in action on Monday, July 29, when they take on Spain at 6:30 a.m. PT. Australia will play Netherlands on Wednesday, July 31 at 5:00 a.m. PT.

Men's Indoor Volleyball
Current UCLA and USA Men's National Team head coach John Speraw and players Micah Ma'a (2015-19) and Garrett Muagututia (2006-10) opened group C with a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) of Argentina. The trio will be back in action to take on Germany at 4 a.m. PT on Tuesday, July 30. The match will be televised live on USA Network and streaming on Peacock.
Men's Beach Volleyball
Miles Partain (2021-23) made his Olympic debut on Saturday morning. Partain and partner Andy Benesh opened pool D play against Jorge Luis Alayo Moliner and Noslen Diaz Amaro of Cuba, but fell in a hard-fought match 2-0 (21-18, 21-18).ย Partain and Benseh are back in action on July 30 for their second match of the tournament, and will play Mohamed Abicha and Zouheir El Graoui of Morocco at 6 a.m. PT on Peacock.
Men's Rugby Sevens
Lucas Lacamp (2020-23) and Team USA secured an eighth-place finish after dropping matches to Ireland and Argentina on Saturday morning. The U.S. had previously advanced out of pool play after going 1-1-1 and finishing as the top-ranked third-place team. Lacamp scored a pair of tries in pool play to help Team USA advance.
On Saturday, Team USA dropped a narrow 17-14 result in the fifth-place quarterfinal before falling 19-0 to Argentina in the seventh-place playoff. Lacamp played in both games.
Table Tennis
Amy Wang of Team USA advanced out of the Women's Singles Round of 64 with a 4-0 win over Priscilla Tommy of Vanuatu. Set scores were 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5. Wang returns to action on Monday, July 29 in the Round of 32.
Men's Tennis
American Marcos Giron's (2012-14) singles opener against Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada was rained out. The showdown of ATP top-40 players will be made up Sunday, as they are now scheduled to take Court Simonne-Mathieu for one of the day's opening matches at 3 a.m. PT.
