Jordan Chiles Wins Olympic Gold

Jordan Chiles and Team USA won the team gold medal at the Olympic Games, the USA women's fourth-ever gold medal and third in the last four Games. For Chiles, it is her second Olympic medal, after winning silver in the team competition in 2020.

The U.S. won by a nearly six-point margin, totaling 171.296 to outscore second-place Italy (165.494) and third-place Brazil (164.497).
Chiles, who had the fourth-highest all-around score in the qualifying round, competed all four events again in the team final, totaling 55.465. She contributed Team USA's highest execution scores on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise.

To start the meet, Chiles put the U.S. in a good position, leading off with a high and clean Yurchenko double full vault for a score of 14.400 that included a 9.400 execution. Leading by 1.434 points going into rotation two, Chiles once again led off on uneven bars and hit a 14.366 to help extend USA's lead, which grew to 3.102 after Simone Biles (14.400) and Suni Lee (14.566) hit their routines.

After starting her balance beam routine with a fall on her mount, Chiles gave little to deduct afterwards, rebounding to deliver a strong routine punctuated by a stuck double pike dismount. Her score of 12.733, combined with Lee's 14.600 and Biles' 14.366 helped increase the USA's lead to 3.602 going into the final rotation. Lee started the final floor rotation with a 13.533, and Chiles followed her with a show-stopping routine that scored 13.966. Biles clinched the gold medal with a score of 14.666.

Chiles, who becomes the third Bruin gymnast to win Olympic gold, joining Madison Kocian (2016) and Kyla Ross (2012), will conclude her Olympic Games on Aug. 5 as the last competitor in the floor exercise final.
