Women's Soccer
Mallory Swanson (2017) and Team USA captured Olympic gold Saturday after a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the gold medal match. Swanson, in her 100th international match, scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute, her fourth goal of the Games and her fifth career Olympic goal.
ย
The gold medal is the United States' fifth at the Olympic Games and first since 2012.
ย
Swanson tied for the tournament lead in total points with 10, recording four goals and two assists as the USA went 6-0.

Men's Basketball
Former UCLA guard Jrue Holiday (2008-09) helped the U.S. Men's Basketball Team win the Olympic gold medal for the second time in three years on Saturday, as Team USA secured a 98-87 win over host nation France. The United States outscored France in each of the first two quarters and led the game at halftime, 49-41.
ย
Holiday, who also competed in the 2020 Olympics (played in 2021 in Tokyo, Japan), finished Saturday's gold-medal victory with six points, four assists and one rebound. He became the first former UCLA men's basketball player to have ever won two Olympic gold medals. He teamed with former UCLA guard Zach LaVine at the 2020 Olympics in Japan, which also culminated in a gold-medal win over France. In all, UCLA has seen 12 of its former men's basketball players win the gold medal for Team USA at the Olympic Games.
ย
Holiday's impressive Olympic resume was bolstered just two months after he played a central role in guiding the 2023-24 Boston Celtics to their first NBA championship since 2008. Holiday helped the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2021 NBA title before that summer's Olympic gold medal, similar to his championships this summer -- in June with the Celtics, and in August at the 2024 Olympics.

Benjamin held off Botswana to close out the race and capture his second gold medal of the Paris Games. The relay combined to run 2:54.43, which set a new Olympic Record and stands as the third-fastest 4x400m relay in history.
ย
Benjamin won gold with the 4x400m relay team and silver in the men's 400m hurdles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics; he captured his first individual gold in the men's 400m hurdle race in Paris Friday.
ย

Women's Water Polo
The U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team earned fourth place at the Paris Olympic Games following a heartbreaking last-second 11-10 loss to the Netherlands on Saturday, August 10. UCLA's Maddie Musselman tied for team-high scoring honors with two goals. The loss snaps the program's streak of winning a medal in every Olympic Games to offer women's water polo dating back to 2000.
ย
The Bruins' Rachel Fattal delivered the opening goal in the first quarter putting Team USA up 1-0 at the 6:27 mark. The Netherlands tied it up a few minutes later at 1-1 on the first of six goals on the day from Sabrina van der Sloot. With just about two minutes to go in the quarter the United States made a push getting two goals, the second of which came from Musselman for a 3-1 edge. The Netherlands got one back late in the period for a 3-2 game headed to the second quarter.
ย
Team USA looked to take control in the second period scoring back-to-back goals for a 5-2 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first half. The Netherlands got one back shortly thereafter for a 5-3 match but the United States had a strong response. With less than 90 seconds to play in the half, Team USA scored on natural goals for a 7-3 game at halftime. Early in the third quarter the Netherlands got back within three but a Musselman penalty shot score pushed it back to four at 8-4 with 5:33 to play in the third. The Netherlands closed the quarter hitting on two of the last three goals scored to make it 9-6 in favor of Team USA going to the fourth.
ย
Netherlands' van der Sloot hit on a penalty to open the fourth but the U.S. came back to make it 10-7 with 4:26 to play. After that the Team USA offense went cold and the Netherlands gathered up all the momentum. The Dutch scored two goals in less than a minute to make it 10-9 with a little over three minutes to play. At the 1:19 mark it was a power play goal that tied the match at 10-10. Then with just one second left in regulation van der Sloot finished things off with her sixth tally, the game-winner to push the Netherlands to victory at 11-10. A final attempt from mid-pool by Team USA was halted as time ran out.
ย
Musselman finished with a team-high-tying 13 goals for Team USA in the Olympics. The Tokyo Olympic Games MVP also added eight rebounds, two steals, and two field blocks. Fattal contributed eight goals (tied for third on the team) in Paris and also record three steals, three rebounds, two field blocks, and won 21-of-27 sprints for the Americans. Tara Prentice finished with five goals, three rebounds, and three field blocks.
ย
Australia won its first medal in the Olympics since 2012 following an 11-9 loss to world No. 1 Spain in the gold medal match on Saturday. The Aussie Stingers reached the finals by defeating Team USA in semifinals in a penalty shootout.
ย
Both teams battled to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first and Spain led 3-2 at the break after scoring the only goal of the second quarter. Spain would stretch its lead to 7-5 heading into the final stanza. The two teams battled to a 4-4 draw in the fourth quarter to provide the 11-9 final.
ย
Neither of UCLA's players for the Aussies scored in the match, but Bronte Halligan added two assists and one field block.
ย
Halligan finished the Olympics third on the team in scoring with eight goals. She also led the Aussies on defense with 12 steals and added three rebounds and two field blocks. UCLA sophomore-to-be, Sienna Green, scored three goals in Paris and contributed two rebounds and two field blocks.
