UCLA Football Student Section Expands with Safe-Standing Areas

UCLA Athletics and the Den has announced that the newly-expanded area of the student section, spanning sections 2 through 6 at the Rose Bowl, will consist of "safe-standing areas", a concept made popular in soccer-specific stadiums. Located directly behind the opponent's bench, these safe-standing areas will bring UCLA students closer to the action like never before.

The safe-standing areas in the first seven rows of those sections are standing-only, with rows separated by high-strength rails for safety and for leaning.

The Rose Bowl will be one of the first college football stadiums to implement safe-standing sections, with UCLA being the only Big Ten team to have students directly behind the opponent bench.

"I'm excited to see students behind the visiting team bench this season," said UCLA wide receiver J.Michael Sturdivant. "I'm sure their noise, energy and passion will make a difference for our team and enhance the atmosphere at the Rose Bowl this season."

The majority of the UCLA student section will remain in sections 6-10. The safe-standing section is purely additive for students, increasing their options for participation in the gameday experience.
