UCLA Officially Joins Big Ten Conference

LOS ANGELES โ UCLA officially joined the Big Ten Conference on Friday, ushering in a new era in the Bruins' storied and illustrious athletic tradition. UCLA, along with previous conference foes Oregon, USC and Washington, have moved to an 18-team Big Ten Conference with a footprint spanning from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

UCLA's approaching membership in the Big Ten Conference was initially announced more than two years ago, on June 30, 2022.

UCLA will compete against Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, USC, Washington and Wisconsin in the new-look Big Ten Conference, starting this fall.

The Bruins' first home Big Ten Conference game will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, as the UCLA football team will host Indiana at 4:30 pm PT. UCLA's home contest against Indiana at the Rose Bowl will be televised on NBC and streamed on Peacock (full football schedule).

In addition, both UCLA soccer teams will be in action with their Big Ten debuts that week. The men's soccer team travels to play at Northwestern (Evanston, Ill.) on Friday, Sept. 13. The women's soccer team will open its Big Ten schedule at Oregon (Eugene, Ore.) on Saturday, Sept. 14.

UCLA's football team will play nine Big Ten teams in a 12-game regular-season schedule. Home matchups in Big Ten action this season will include Indiana (Sept. 14), Oregon (Sept. 28), Minnesota (Oct. 12), Iowa (Nov. 8), and crosstown rival USC (Nov. 23). The Big Ten Conference will host its league championship contest at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The Big Ten schedules for both men's and women's basketball have not been finalized. The men's basketball team will play 20 Big Ten contests (10 at home, 10 on the road). The women's basketball team will compete in an 18-game Big Ten slate during the 2024-25 season (nine games at home, nine on the road).

Earlier this week, BTN announced its programming schedule for Friday, Aug. 2, as UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington officially join the Big Ten Conference. BTN plans to debut brand-new, original programming for all four schools throughout the day. A special hour-long addition of "B1G Today" will debut at 9 a.m. (PT), hosted by Dave Revsine, Rick Pizzo and Jake Butt. That episode will re-air at 2 p.m. (PT) and against at 9:30 p.m. (PT).

UCLA will have two hours of programming, beginning with B1G Welcome: UCLA at 10 a.m. (PT), a 30-minute show that highlights the Bruins' programs and traditions. BTN will go in-depth with Tyus Edney at 10:30 a.m. (PT), with The B1G Moment: Tyus Edney, taking a look at his last-second shot against Missouri in the Round of 32 of the 1995 NCAA Tournament. Rounding out UCLA's coverage on Friday will be B1G Trailblazers: Ann Meyers Drysdale, a one-hour interview with the standout Bruins' alum who was the first woman to sign a contract in the NBA. Additional coverage featuring Oregon will begin at 12 p.m. (PT), followed by USC at 3 p.m. (PT) and Washington at 6 p.m. (PT).

BTN will also debut a new episode of the program Campus Eats: West Coastin' at 9 p.m. (PT), where Jenny Dell and Troy Johnson will visit El Cholo (near USC's campus), Killer Burger in Eugene, Ore., Perry's Café and Beach Rentals (near UCLA) and Ivar's Salmon House, just off the Washington waters. That episode will also re-air at 11:30 p.m. (PT). Fans can also re-watch UCLA Football's thrilling win over USC at the Rose Bowl, from Nov. 17, 2012, airing at 10:30 p.m. (PT) on Friday.

Over the Years: UCLA has won 123 NCAA team titles in its athletic history, which ranks second in the nation (behind Stanford) and first among all 18 Big Ten Conference programs. USC ranks second in the Big Ten with 113 team titles, while Penn State ranks third (54). Over the past 20 years, UCLA has captured 88 conference titles (both regular-season and tournaments) across 17 sports. That total of 88 titles includes 14 from men's tennis, 10 from women's soccer, nine from women's gymnastics, eight from men's basketball, eight from women's water polo, seven from men's soccer, and seven from softball. Most recently, the UCLA athletics department won two NCAA championships during the 2023-24 academic year โ in men's volleyball and women's water polo, both in May of 2024.ย
