Men's Water Polo
The U.S. men's water polo team registered a crucial 12-7 victory over Montenegro on Saturday, securing a spot in the quarterfinal round at the Olympics with one group match left. Incoming UCLA freshman Ryder Dodd and former UCLA standout Max Irving (2014-17) each scored two goals for the United States.

Team USA struck first on Saturday when Ryder Dodd found the back of the net. The lead was short-lived, as Montenegro answered with a goal to tie the game, 1-1. Team USA scored the game's next goal to lead, 2-1, and never relinquished the advantage. With under four minutes to play in the opening quarter, Irving scored a goal to give the United States a 3-1 cushion. Team USA led by a 4-1 tally after one quarter, and by a 7-2 margin at halftime.

Ryder Dodd scored his second goal of the match midway through the third quarter to put Team USA ahead of Montenegro, 10-6. Irving's second goal of the contest gave the United States a commanding 12-7 advantage in the fourth quarter. Team USA will return to action against Croatia on Monday, Aug. on Monday, Aug. 5. Game time is 9:30 a.m. PT (6:30 p.m. local time in France). Team USA has gone 2-2 through the group stage (six points) and can finish no worse than fourth in its group. This Monday's match will be broadcast live on USA Network and will also stream on Peacock.

Women's Soccer
The U.S. women's soccer team advanced to the semifinals on Saturday after a 1-0 overtime victory over Japan. Mallory Swanson (2017) started and played 90 minutes, recording two shots. Trinity Rodman scored the game's only goal in extra time during the first overtime period. The U.S. will face Germany in the semifinal on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 9 a.m. PT. The two teams met earlier in the group stage, with the U.S. earning a 4-1 victory.

Canada's reign as Olympic champions ended in the quarterfinals after falling in penalty kicks to Germany. The two teams played to a scoreless tie before Germany advanced, 4-2, in the penalty kick shootout. Germany's goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger made two penalty saves and hit the decisive penalty kick to send the Germans into the semifinals. Canadian captain Jessie Fleming (2016-19) played just 45 minutes after suffering an injury during stoppage time of the first half.ย
Women's Basketball
Serbia lost in its final Group A matchup against Spain, 70-62, on Saturday morning. UCLA's Angela Dugalic played 10 minutes in the loss. She shot a perfect 3-for-3 inside the arc, finished with seven points and snagged one rebound in the game. With two wins in the group stage, Dugalic and Serbia have qualified to advance to the quarterfinals. The women's basketball Olympic quarterfinals will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Game times, seeding and opponents are to be determined after the group stage concludes on Sunday.

Men's Basketball
The U.S. men's basketball team defeated Puerto Rico, 104-83, in the final group phase game for both teams on Saturday. Team USA improved to 3-0 in the group phase, advancing to the quarterfinals. Former UCLA standout Jrue Holiday (2009) did not play on Saturday. Anthony Edwards scored a team-leading 26 points for the United States, as six Team USA players scored in double figures.

Sondre Guttormsen (2019-20) began his second Olympics with a season-best mark in the men's pole vault qualification round. The Norwegian vaulter cleared 5.75m to claim a share of the top rank in the competition. Guttormsen qualifies for the finals on Monday, Aug. 5. Competition begins at 10 a.m. PT and will be televised on NBC.
