Kaho Selected to Comeback Player of the Year Watch List
August 07, 2024 | Football
UCLA's Ale Kaho on Wednesday was selected to the watch list for the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) in association with the Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl Organization.
Kaho, a redshirt senior linebacker, was one of 90 players selected to the list. The Reno, Nev. native has been limited to one game over the last two seasons at UCLA while recovering from injuries.
Since 2018, the Comeback Player of the Year Award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances.ย At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of college football writers, editors, and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes are honored as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
UCLA is no stranger to the Comeback Player of the Year Award, as former standout Bruin defensive end Laiatu Latu (at UCLA from 2022-23) was selected as one of three winners in 2022.
Kaho is a veteran of 52 games at the collegiate level between UCLA (2021-23) and Alabama (2018-20). His most extensive playing time as a Bruin came during the 2021 season, when he appeared in 11 games. Standout moments during that year included a blocked punt that was recovered for a touchdown against Hawaii, and a season-high seven tackles at Utah.
The Bruins will begin the 2024 season on Aug. 31, traveling to Honolulu to take on Hawai'i. CBS will televise the game, which is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. PT start. UCLA then hosts Indiana at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 14 in the team's home opener and first conference game as members of the Big Ten Conference.
