Benjamin Captures Gold Medal in Men’s 400m Hurdles

PARIS – Rai Benjamin, who competed for UCLA from 2016-17, has claimed gold at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The two-time Olympian (2020, 2024) ran 46.46 in the men's 400m hurdle final to earn his first individual gold medal at the Olympics. Benjamin previously medaled in the men's 4x400m relay (gold) and 400m hurdles (silver) at the Tokyo Games.
In the first round of competition on Monday, Aug. 5, Benjamin cruised to a first-place finish in heat one of the men's 400m hurdles event; he ran 48.82 in the qualifying round. Benjamin earned an automatic qualification to Wednesday's semifinal with the result.
Benjamin secured an automatic qualification to the men's 400m hurdle final in Wednesday's semifinal round. The hurdler ran 47.85, the second-fastest mark in the field of competition, to claim first place in his heat.
