Chase Griffin Named to Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®
September 17, 2024 | Football
NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Redshirt senior Chase Griffin of the UCLA football team was named Tuesday to the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® and earned an Allstate Wuerffel Trophy semifinalist spot in the process. The awards are considered college football's highest community service honors.
The Good Works Team is made up of 22 student-athletes – 11 from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and 11 from the NCAA Football Championships Subdivision, Divisions II and III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics – and one head coach who excel in service to their communities.
The Wuerffel Trophy recipient will be selected from the FBS honorees and recognized as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards show, to be televised by ESPN Dec. 12, and be deemed team captain of the Good Works Team. The Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by a national voting committee, including a fan vote component. Fans can cast their vote by November 15 at ESPN.com/Allstate.
Griffin, a quarterback out of Round Rock, Texas, is a three-time nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy. This is his first time reaching the semifinal-round stage. The 2024 list was pared down from 111 FBS nominees.
This honor is the latest for Griffin, who is also a three-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year honoree and two-time finalist, garnering runner-up recognition in 2023. Griffin's accolades also include NIL Male Athlete of the Year awards from INFLCR and Opendorse.
Griffin has already earned his undergraduate degree in public affairs, as well as graduate degrees in legal studies and transformative coaching and leadership. He was named the UCLA Young Alumnus of the Year for his leadership and philanthropic commitment earlier this year. Recipient of the UCLA Chancellor's Service Award and UCLA Athletics Bruin Leadership Award in 2021, he is the football program's representative in the Bruin Athletic Council leadership group.
A portion of Griffin's Name, Image and Likeness proceeds go directly to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank's BackPack Program, which benefits children who rely on school meals to not go hungry. Griffin and his Be11eve Brand have donated more than 60,000 meals and won the GoFundMe College Charity Challenge for the work accomplished with Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. His numerous community service endeavors also include experiences with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the Boost Mobile Holiday event, LA After School All-Stars, Be the Match Marrow Donor Registry and the LA Unified Schools.
