DALLAS – UCLA sophomore shortstop Roch Cholowsky has been named the District 9 Player of the Year, announced today by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Cholowsky, one of four finalists for the NCBWA's Dick Howser Trophy, adds to an already impressive list of honors. He was named Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive of the Year after his incredible campaign during conference play. His excellence has been noticed on the national stage as he was named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
Friday's honor notes that Cholowsky is player of the year in a district that comprises the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Hawai'i, Arizona and Alaska.
UCLA slugger Roch Cholowsky, a Chandler, Ariz. native and District 9 powerhouse, made history in the Bruins' inaugural Big Ten season. He was named both Big Ten Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first UCLA player ever to earn both honors in the same season. Cholowsky also became the Bruins' first conference player of the year since 1998, when they competed in the Pac-12.
A First Team All-Big Ten selection, he played a key role in UCLA's late-season surge, helping the team to a 45-16 record heading into the NCAA Los Angeles Super Regional—its highest win total since 2019.
