Bruins Split a Pair of Duals in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The No. 24 UCLA Swim and Dive team split a pair of dual meets on Saturday afternoon, beating UC Santa Barbara and falling to Utah. The Bruins beat UC Santa Barbara 185-103, but fell to Utah 158-142 on Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City.

In the first event of the day, the Bruins took first place in the 200 medley relay. The 'A' squad of Fay Lustria, Eva Carlson, Emma Harvey and Ana Jih-Schiff combined to take the win in 1:40.64. Additionally, UCLA's 'B' squad of Claudia Yovanovich, Karolina Piechowicz, Angela Quan, and Gizem Guvenc finished third in the event with a time of 1:44.66.

UCLA's first individual event win of the day came in the 100 back. Junior Rosie Murphy touched the wall first in 56.28, while Lustira came in third in the event in 56.78.

Eva Carlson followed Murphy's win with one of her own in the 100 breast. The senior took first place in 1:03.28. As for the 200 fly the Bruins took second and third in the event. Paige MacEachern finished second in 2:05.43 while Mia Chang took third in 2:06.22 to put two Bruins on the podium.

Ana Jih-Schiff earned another dual meet podium to add to her collection for the 2024-25 season when she took third in the 50 free. The senior touched the wall in 23.59 to earn the bronze in the event.

As for the 100 free, Emma Harvey took second in 51.51.

Murphy then took first in the 200 back, earning the third win of the afternoon for the Bruins when she was the only athlete to go sub-2:00 when she finished in 1:59.98.

Jih-Schiff earned her first win of the afternoon in the next event, the 200 breaststroke. The senior touched the wall in 2:15.31, over six seconds faster than the second-place swimmer from Utah. MacEachern then took second in the 500 free, recording a time of 5:11.36.

Later on in the meet in the 100 fly, Harvey earned her third podium of the afternoon when she took second in the event, with a time of 55.84. As for the 200 IM Murphy took first in 2:04.20.

As for the dive events, Eden Cheng took fourth and Maya Salvitti finished fifth in the 1-meter dive. Cheng then took the top spot in the 3-meter competition with a score of 302.70, while Salvitti finished fourth in 289.65.

The Bruins took second in the 200 free relay to wrap up the meet. The quartet of Harvey, Jih-Schiff, Guvenc, and Bennetts took second in 1:33.75.
