No. 1 Bruins Improve to 20-0, Take Down No. 8 Terrapins

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 1-ranked UCLA Women's Basketball team (20-0, 8-0 Big Ten) won its twentieth consecutive game of the season over No. 8-ranked Maryland at XFINITY Center on Sunday afternoon. The win was UCLA's fifth over a ranked opponent for the season; the final score was 82-67.
 
Junior Lauren Betts scored a career-high 33 points on 14-15 shooting to lead the Bruins in their 15-point win over the Terrapins (16-4, 6-3 Big Ten). She reached 1,000 career points in the win, where she also recorded seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.
 
Junior Kiki Rice also reached double figures, scoring 19 points in the game. Rice finished with seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals while shooting 50 percent from the field. The duo of Rice and Betts combined for 52 points in the win.
 
Betts began her scoring dominance in the first quarter to put the Bruins up 20-15. She scored the first points of the game off of a turnover in the first minute of play. Betts finished the first frame with 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting alongside three rebounds. Rice added six points in the first quarter and Angela Dugalić recorded four assists.
 
Maryland found success on the offensive end in the second quarter, but UCLA finished the first half up 39-34. Betts had another double-digit scoring quarter, finishing the period with ten points without a missed shot. Her 24-point first half was the highest-scoring half of her career. Rice scored four points in the quarter to finish the first half in double figures. Junior Londynn Jones laced her first three-point attempt of the game. The Bruins were also effective on the defensive end in the first half, forcing 12 turnovers.
 

 
The Bruins got out quickly in the third quarter, extending their lead to nine and forcing a timeout in the first minute of play. Betts continued to be dominant, recording seven points in the frame and tying her career high in points in only three quarters. Other Bruins got hot in the third quarter and the Bruins made four consecutive three-point shots. Timea Gardiner made two three-pointers without missing a shot to finish the quarter with seven points. The Bruins outscored the Terrapins 26-14 in the third to enter the final quarter up 65-48.
 

 
UCLA finished the game with an effective fourth-quarter performance. Rice and Gabriela Jaquez each scored five points in the frame. Betts hit two free throws to achieve her career-high in points, and Jones laced her second three-pointer of the game. Freshman Kendall Dudley also scored in the fourth to contribute to UCLA's eighth conference win as members of the Big Ten.
 
UP NEXT - vs Minnesota (Feb 2)
The Bruins will return home to face off against No. 23-ranked Minnesota at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Sunday, Feb. 2. The game will tip off at 12 p.m. PST and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
