Schwesinger Earns CSC Academic All-America Acclaim

LOS ANGELES โ Redshirt junior linebacker Carson Schwesinger on the UCLA football team was named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second Team Academic All-American, the organization announced Tuesday morning.

The 2024 Academic All-America Football teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes must possess a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 while competing in 90% of the institution's games played or starting in at least 66% of the institution's games.

Schwesinger, a bioengineering major, owns a 3.72 cumulative GPA.

It was a breakout season for Schwesinger, who piled up 136 total tackles, 4.0 sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss, one fumble forced and two interceptions en route to first-team All-America recognition by the Associated Press. He also earned second-team honors from the American Football Coaches Association and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Schwesinger was a finalist for the Butkus Award, which honors the nation's top linebacker, and a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, presented annually to the best player who began his career as a walk-on. Academically, he earned a spot on the Big Ten Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Schwesinger, an All-Big Ten First Team selection, led the conference during the regular season in total tackles (136), total tackles per game (11.3), solo tackles (90), solo tackles per game (7.5) and double-digit-tackle performances (nine). Schwesinger's 90 solo tackles, which actively lead the FBS, were the most by a Big Ten defenseman during the regular season in at least the last 22 years.

Schwesinger officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on Dec. 19, 2024, via his Instagram.
