Betts Collects Three Weekly Honors to Start New Year
January 07, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – Junior Lauren Betts has racked up a trio of honors to begin the new year.
The UCLA center was named the Jersey Mikes Naismith Women's College Player of the Week, a USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the Week and was included in the Big Ten Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.
The Bruin junior averaged a double-double versus No. 24 Michigan at home and at Indiana inside a hostile Assembly Hall in UCLA's 2-0 week. Betts has led UCLA in scoring in eight of her 13 appearances this season; she missed two games after sustaining a leg injury at Long Beach State (Dec. 14).
Betts has continued to make her case to be in the National Player of the Year conversation as a dominant post on both ends of the floor. The Centennial, Colo., native is currently third in the Big Ten in scoring (19.8 PPG). The center is shooting .615 from the field (4th - B1G, 15th - NCAA) and has claimed nine double-doubles this year while averaging 10.0 rebounds per game. She is holding down the fort on the defensive end, averaging 2.2 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
The Bruins are 15-0 for the second time in program history; UCLA's best start to a season came in 2019-20 when the program won 16-consecutive games to begin the campaign.
