Bella, Bruins Beat Nebraska, 3-0

October 19, 2025 | Women's Soccer

LOS ANGELES - Redshirt freshman Bella Winn contributed to all three Bruin goals as UCLA beat Nebraska by a 3-0 count on Sunday afternoon. Winn scored two first-half goals and assisted on freshman Payten Cooper's second half goal.

UCLA was aggressive from the get-go, battering Nebraska with 20 shots in the first half alone and 28 total in the game. The Bruins earned their first goal at 25:38 off a set piece. Val Vargas played a free kick short to Emma Egizii, who laid it off to Vargas. Vargas quickly whipped a cross into the box for Winn, who headed it in far post for the early lead. And she wasn't done. Less than three minutes later, Egizii had a shot blocked, and Winn one-timed the rebound past goalkeeper Cece Villa for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
Winn nearly recorded a hat trick in the 58th minute but settled instead for an assist after her shot in the box was stopped by Villa. Cooper was at the right post to snare the rebound and tap it in, celebrating her second collegiate goal with a backflip after putting UCLA ahead, 3-0.ย
Daphne Nakfoor and Mariangela Medina shared the shutout for the Bruins, who have 11 total shutouts this year, along with a nation-leading goals against average of 0.31. Cece Villa had nine saves for Nebraska, who also recorded a team save.ย

The match was Senior Day for UCLA's seniors Egizii, Vargas, America Frias, Jennie Immethun, Lexi Wright, Lily Boyden and Bridgette Marin-Valencia. Each senior saw action in the game. Additionally, redshirt freshman Sammy Sanchez saw her first action since suffering a season-ending knee injury in game four of last year. Sanchez played 19 minutes and recorded a shot on goal. Seeing career-high minutes in this game were sophomore Avery Robinson (58) and freshmen Siena Meyer (32) and Sofia Atehortua (34).ย

"We're hitting our stride, which is what we want to be doing at this point in the season," said UCLA head coach Margueritte Aozasa. "I was really proud, too, across these last two games against Iowa and Nebraska, that we were really able to show our depth. So you saw today players that maybe haven't really seen as many minutes through the year get those minutes and you come away happy for them because the hard work they've been putting in definitely showed this weekend."

UCLA will close out the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 26 against USC. The match will take place at Wallis Annenberg Stadium at 2pm PT and will be televised live on Big Ten Network. Tickets are selling quickly and can be purchased online at uclabruins.com/tickets.
